Gender Rights and Empowerment Project Community Durbar at Ada Foah Elavanyo – Ada East District
Renel Ghana Foundation, under the Gender Rights and Empowerment Project and in partnership with Songtaba, supported a community durbar at Ada Foah Elavanyo. The district G‑REP support team led the event, with sensitisation sessions delivered by the Ghana Health Service and Legal Aid on gender‑based violence, reporting mechanisms and survivor support services.
Overview
The community durbar brought together chiefs, opinion leaders, service providers and residents to raise awareness about GBV and IPV, explain legal and health protections, and strengthen local reporting and referral pathways under the Gender Rights and Empowerment Project.
Purpose
- Inform communities about legal rights, reporting channels and survivor support services.
- Encourage collective responsibility for prevention and safe reporting.
- Strengthen linkages between community actors and formal service providers.
- Mobilise local leaders to endorse and host follow‑up sensitisation activities.
Activities delivered
- Sensitisation sessions by Ghana Health Service on clinical care and post‑violence health services.
- Legal Aid briefing on legal protections, reporting procedures and access to legal assistance.
- Public information on how to access the One‑Stop Support Centre and local referral contacts.
- Community dialogue with chiefs and opinion leaders to reduce stigma and promote survivor safety.
- Distribution of referral cards and contact lists for immediate use.
