Gender Rights and Empowerment Project (G‑REP)
In partnership with Songtaba and with support from the UN Trust Fund to End Violence Against Women, the Gender Rights and Empowerment Project (G‑REP) to prevent and respond to intimate partner violence and gender‑based violence across selected districts in Northern and Coastal Ghana. The project centres survivors, strengthens community systems, and advances policy reforms to remove barriers that keep women and girls from living safe, dignified lives
Who We Support
The project focuses on supporting women and girls who are survivors of:
- Intimate partner violence
- Witchcraft accusations
- Economic exclusion
- Social protection barriers
Core Services and Approaches
- Community sensitisation — public education and dialogue with traditional leaders, faith groups, youth and families to shift harmful norms and reduce stigma.
- Economic empowerment — skills training, savings and livelihood support to increase survivors’ financial independence and reduce vulnerability.
- Policy advocacy — evidence‑based engagement with duty bearers to strengthen local systems, referral pathways, and social protection measures.
- Monitoring and learning — data collection and community feedback loops to adapt interventions and measure impact.
A major highlight of Gender Rights and Empowerment Project is the establishment of a fully operational One‑Stop Support Centre where survivors can access integrated services in a single, safe location. The centre offers confidential intake, counselling, legal advice, medical referrals, and linkages to economic opportunities, ensuring survivors receive coordinated care without repeated retelling of their experiences.
