Supporting Out-of-School Girls under the LEPIP Programme

Renel Ghana Foundation, in collaboration with the Awutu Senya District Health Directorate, Inclusion Ghana, and community leaders, engaged adolescent girls in Simpapebiso under the UNICEF‑supported Power Her Potential (LEPIP) Programme. The initiative created a safe platform for girls to share their aspirations and for stakeholders to design practical interventions that strengthen protection and access to youth‑friendly services.

Purpose

  • Expand access to youth‑friendly services and safe spaces for adolescent development.
  • Address teenage pregnancy and its impact on girls’ education and wellbeing.
  • Highlight social protection gaps and propose solutions for vulnerable adolescents.
  • Improve SRHR knowledge among girls to promote informed choices and healthy futures.

Activities delivered

  • Community dialogue: interactive discussions with adolescent girls on challenges and aspirations.
  • SRHR education: sessions on sexual and reproductive health rights, prevention and care.
  • Stakeholder consultation: mapping of social protection gaps and service delivery challenges.
  • Solution design: proposals for youth‑friendly centres, mentorship programmes and safeguarding systems.

Outcomes and next steps

  • Immediate outcomes: adolescent girls voiced aspirations for education, skills training and economic independence; stakeholders identified priority interventions.
  • Short term: establish mentorship networks and pilot youth‑friendly centres in selected communities.
  • Medium term: strengthen safeguarding systems through community by‑laws and referral protocols.
  • Longer term: integrate adolescent SRHR education and youth‑friendly services into district health and education planning.
