Type 1 Diabetes Sensitization in Walewale
Renel Ghana Foundation, with generous support from Panorama Global’s T1D Community Fund, partnered with Walewale Reproductive and Child Health Services to deliver a focused sensitisation session on Type 1 Diabetes. The interactive event engaged 25 mothers and guardians, equipping families with practical knowledge to recognise, prevent and manage T1D in children.
Objectives and focus areas
- Raise awareness about the causes and effects of Type 1 Diabetes and how it differs from other forms of diabetes.
- Promote early detection by teaching caregivers the warning signs and when to seek medical attention.
- Encourage healthy living through practical guidance on nutrition, hydration and daily care to support children with or at risk of T1D.
- Strengthen linkages between families and local health services for follow‑up screening and support.
Activities delivered
- Interactive health talk explaining Type 1 versus Type 2 diabetes and common causes and effects.
- Symptom recognition session covering frequent urination, excessive thirst, unexplained weight loss and fatigue.
- Practical prevention and early detection guidance including when to seek testing and how to access local screening services.
- Healthy living demonstrations on balanced meals, safe physical activity and basic daily care for children.
- Q&A and referral orientation where caregivers received contact details for Walewale Reproductive and Child Health Services and guidance on follow‑up.
