IPV Training for Alorkpem, Azizanya, and Ada-Foah Communities
Renel Ghana Foundation, under the Gender Rights and Empowerment Project and in partnership with Songtaba, mobilized twelve SMART youth trainers from Alorkpem, Azizanya and Ada‑Foah to deliver an intensive training on intimate partner violence (IPV) at the Ada East District Assembly seminar room. Community members attended and engaged actively, demonstrating strong commitment to promoting positive behavioural change.
Purpose
- Build local capacity by equipping SMART youth trainers with survivor‑centred IPV prevention and response skills.
- Promote positive behaviour change through youth‑led community outreach and peer education.
- Strengthen referral pathways by linking trained youth to the One‑Stop Support Centre and district service providers.
- Create a multiplier effect so trained youth can cascade learning across their communities.
Training content and approach
- Curriculum highlights: survivor‑centred case management; safe referral procedures; psychosocial first aid; bystander intervention; communication and conflict‑resolution skills.
- Methodology: interactive workshops, role plays, scenario practice, group reflection and action‑planning.
- Practical tools: referral cards, facilitator guides, community outreach checklists and monitoring templates.
Participants and roles
- Trainers: 12 SMART youth trainers drawn from Alorkpem, Azizanya and Ada‑Foah.
- Community participants: youth groups, women’s groups and local volunteers who joined practical sessions.
- Technical support: Renel Ghana Foundation and Songtaba coordinated logistics and follow‑up; district service providers available for referral orientation.
Outcomes and next steps
- Immediate outcomes: 12 youth trainers certified; community members demonstrated readiness to lead local activities; outreach plans drafted for each community.
- Follow‑up actions: trainers to conduct community sensitisation sessions; Renel Ghana Foundation to finalise monitoring templates and collect monthly outreach reports; schedule refresher coaching after six weeks.
- Monitoring indicators: number of sensitisation events; people reached; referrals made to services; trainer‑led activities completed.
